PM meets with founder of Huawei Technologies

February 15, 2017, at the Purple Room, Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House, Mr. Ren Zhengfei, founder of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha. Lt. Gen. Werachon Sukondhapatipak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, disclosed gist of the meeting as follows,

The Prime Minister welcomed Mr. Ren Zhengfei who expressed confidence over Thailand's potential and informed that Huawei has planned to expand investment in the country. The Prime Minister commended Huawei Technologies as world's and China's leading telecommunication devices and network equipment producer, and thanked the company for taking part in developing Thailand's IT and continuously exchanging technical knowhow and technology with Thai academic institutes. He hoped that the company would continue with the endeavor.

Mr. Ren Zhengfei expressed honor to meet with the Prime Minister today, and praised for his leadership in administering the nation in an efficient and transparent manner which has brought peace, and a good impact to the country’s investment atmosphere. He also expressed confidence that Thailand would become the hub of digital technology for Southeast Asia, and that Huawei Technologies would continue to take part in propelling Thailand toward digital technology.

Both parties exchanged views on economic cooperation between Thailand and China. The Prime Minister stated that Shenzhen city in Guangdong province, where Huawei Headquarters is located, is strategically important to Thailand as gateway for Thai-Chinese economic linkage, with Thailand-Guangdong working group as key mechanism to promote relations between the two countries. Huawei Technologies could coordinate with the working group for its plan to expand investment in Thailand. Mr. Ren Zhengfei affirmed Huawei’s commitment in further bridging and strengthening Thailand-China relations.
